San Marcos firing
The play of the flames creates random patterns during the firing process...

The San Marcos bonfire and similar surface firing techniques are the most common forms of firing in Oaxaca and indigenous Latin America. For centuries these low temperature firing methods have provided for a sustainable balance between energy requirements in a land of limited resources, and utility of the product. The result is a graceful work of art, decorated by the flames which brought it to ringing life.
