The surface texture of the Oaxacan pot ranges from the rough striations produced by the Mixe using a dry corncob husk, to the smooth and mirror-like surface produced in Coyotepec. In Coyotepec, two clay polishing sticks, one finer textured than the other (A and B), are used in turn to burnish the surface using oil as a lubricant. A design is formed by leaving some parts of the pot surface unburnished before firing.
